Me, Sherlock !

A long time ago, about a year back, my broker ran off with about a couple of lakhs belonging to me. This guy was a sort of pimp for my software crafting services, and since my need has never been much and I am by nature a frugal spender, this didn't affect me much. However, I did ask around as to what caused the stupid wanker to run off and learnt that the idiot owed people money to the tune of about a crore. well, i stopped there since there's no point in crying over spilled milk and all that.
However, a week back i decided that there must be some trace of what had happened since on the net. this was because the fellows name wasn't coming up on any front, either here or in b'lore, where he was rumored to be. in my dealings with this fellow i had already decided that this chap was not intelligent enough to do something complicated, but had a low animal cunning, with a fear of authority, but would cross the line of the law if it didn't involve killing or ( physically ) hurting anyone.
Hence began my armchair investigation :-). a search in google showed up the same things, all about a couple of years old, so i simple changed my search parameters to results that were only a month old. this was empty. for me, this was an indication that things were not all hi-fi and it was probably a simple something this fellow was running. next i made the parameters a year old, and i struck gold. my ex-broker had put in a advertisement about making money from home and helpfully put in his phone number and email address too. also there was a website address. a click later and this website was all about making a payment of 6000INR for a period of a year and earning 12000INR a month for doing some idiotic, time consuming but pointless work. wow, a return of 2400% on an investment is something that can make loads of people happy. also i have actually heard of people who make money this way, the fact that this guy whom i was pulling dirt up about used to tell me about how nice it would be if people could earn this way.
Right before we split, this guy had been to Delhi 'to meet and get a huge software contract' ; all bullshit, on hindsight. anyway, one of the final works i had done for this guy was a website , since abandoned. and he had also asked me to make a self working click the ad software which i decided against since it would be unethical, and so asked him to give me a percentage of what he was earning. there was also a talk of earning a lot of money with this website and also the number of people who were parting with cash pretty much begging him to take it off their hands.
Ok. i have explained all that i could from 2 different perspectives, so let me put it together. i cannot explain how this happened, i can only say that this morning i had a completed jigsaw puzzle. this guy in Delhi ( 2400% annual returns ) sold a huge number of accounts to my ex-broker. this fellow then resold these same accounts to other people assuring them of returns of 10% per month ( 120% annually ). so my broker made some serious money here. very nice, but people here must have become suspicious about the sudden increase of his moolah. our boy also had a tendency to boast and hence, someone somewhere must have found out, necessitating his exit to the cooler climate of Bangalore.
Do i plan on finding this guy and asking him for my money? No. i have found from life experiences that it is useful to have a particular type of people owe you money then return it, since then they would get the moral right to ask for more. which is a situation i am trying to avoid. so, sayonara, my friend. best of luck in life to you.

In the right direction, perhaps ?

i've been toying around with a PHP framework called symfony . actually i wanted to know what MVC ( Model-View-Controller ) was, and i am really comfortable with PHP, so downloaded a copy and made a sandbox on my xampp htdocs directory. after i started playing around it just hit me that how much programming has simplified over the 12 years since i wrote my "hello world" program in c. where 150 people were needed to code a simple website back then, that too in about a year, now things can be done with just one or two programmers in about a fortnight. i think thats awesome. computers are finally doing what they were invented to do - to reduce human work. one really interesting thing is the askeet tutorial. here they guide you through making a replica of their site over 24 days, with each tutorial taking not more than one and a half hours to completely understand and implement. Also the symfony site itself is created on symfony, and that's really cool. ok, what hit me

Mind and Friendships

This post seems to be ( atleast in my mind ) a long one. but before i write about the topic of the blog post, i would like to describe my opinions of connected topics which will lead to the actual post. First let us look at the growth of the mind as a graph covering fixed points, each of which are a topic of knowledge. A person's mind, at the beginning of life is like a line ( connecting 2 points, hunger and mother's breast ) which comes into existence only at some points and otherwise is simply a blank. after a few months, the lines become more permanent and stressed. after some more time, as the child grows and learns and understands more things, some more points add to this. if we imagine our mind to be the space enclosed in these points, then we would have a multidimensional graph. (think a really very weirdly shaped object.). However, the " The mind, once expanded to the dimensions of larger ideas, never returns to its original size. " - Oliver Wendell

a keeper from kiterunner

today was watching kiterunner. awesome movie. it was this dialog that hit me hard - "Now, no matter what the mullah teaches, there is only one sin, only one. And that is theft. Every other sin is a variation of theft... When you kill a man, you steal a life. You steal his wife's right to a husband, rob his children of a father. When you tell a lie, you steal someone's right to the truth. When you cheat, you steal the right to fairness... There is no act more wretched than stealing, Amir."
