after god came programmers

This post is in protest of all the people who think programmers are a bunch of idiots. A computer was invented for the sole reason of eliminating the redundance of human tasks. It is a machine that imitates the human mind and action. In a way, it can be considered to be a mirror of the human mind. Yes i agree that in certain ways, all objects man-made are reflections of the human mind, but only the computer comes close to imitating it in such totality, without complying with the natural laws of nature. It is a presentation instrument; where thoughts are brought into reality. If a train of thoughts can be traced precisely, outlined concisely. It can be made into a program. It will do only that work, until taught to do something else, but will do it at a fraction of the cost and with near 100% accuracy. Also no allowances, strikes, overtime and productivity issues. Just a little bit of dusting and maintaining the flow of raw materials and electricity. This means that all, ...

About GATE, money and my life

2 days back i got my GATE result. I had not even qualified! This hurt like hell. I didn't even get my marks, which is disgusting.but this blog post is not about my failure. Failure it is, it is results which matter, which have not materialized. However while thinking about it,and contemplating on it, suddenly my thoughts had immense clarity. This kind of clarity has come recently only about 2 or 3 times, and each time the insight it has left me has decided my course through the foggy road called life. So this time i decided to put it on my blog. My preparing and facing the GATE exam was my 'easy' way to satisfy 2 goals, 1. End up as a researcher, so i would not get bored with life. And 2. find a (comparatively) easy way to make some good money without worrying about job security and dreary stuff like that. Hm..mm...yes. And money. That which is responsible for most of the problems in this world. it has a certain value in my life. What is that value? This i need to ...

Thus spake bruce lee

Things i have learned from Bruce Lee: “As you think, so shall you become.” What are you really thinking about today? i was not thinking big enough “It’s not the daily increase but daily decrease. Hack away at the unessential.” “If you spend too much time thinking about a thing, you’ll never get it done.” Simplify. Hell, i was just thinking about all the wonderful things i could do. i never took the time to put things on paper or do things that could make things simpler. No refinement. “To know oneself is to study oneself in action with another person.” Learn about yourself in interactions. i observed that i spoke about my own interest, with no thought as to what the other person's interest was. i never tried understanding what the other person wanted or was interested in. No diversity in thought - no expansion of mind - no growth. “Take no thought of who is right or wrong or who is better than. Be not for or against.” Do not divide. I actually came up with this stuf...

Deliverence

from a long time i was trying to hold on to someone that i had already lost a long time back. amidst the hustle and bustle of life,i forgot that everything we face expands our mind, changes our opinion, temperament, reasoning and everything else. and once our mind changes, it rarely comes back to it's original shape. i am guilty of a lapse, which is that i forgot that if i have changed so has that person, and hence i should have let things be, and enjoyed the overwhelming memories, instead of hoping and torturing myself for mistakes made. i realized this the other day, and now know that it was a beautiful feeling when it lasted, and no one can take it away. i also realized that i was never at fault, and the guilt i was feeling was baseless. i am truly free now, not because the chains are broken, but because they were never there.

We have been hearing about clouds, but When will it rain?

The frank answer is: i don't know . But it did give me something to fantasize about. let me consider just one possibility of cloud computing. Online data storage. And how it can affect your life. Consider your hard drive, there are very few files that are private in nature, and in quantity very small compared to the rest of your files, most of which are music , movies , pictures, e-books and executables . Most of these are commonly found files. All files have a unique MD5 hash or some other specific and unique characteristic. And these can be easily used to uniquely describe this file from a purely computational point of view. Now just think about your public data being indexed and then pushed onto the cloud. Changes in this index will correspond with the changes on the hard-disk drive, versioned CVS like. Now suppose you loose all the data, maybe by an accidental format, or hard drive crash, you can easily get at this index and by using a connected p2p system like bit torrent, you...

2009: year's resolution

my last year's resolution was : I SHALL COME UP WITH SOMETHING REVOLUTIONARY THIS YEAR..... i had only a fog of an idea before. but now the fog has cleared and i can see how to go about doing it. Its not going to be easy, and i need to re-learn everything things from scratch. i will need to train myself, because now i can see what is lacking in the education i have received. but i feel it will be worth it completely to have the clarity and depth of vision needed. Also the future seems to be not using web based computer programs, but something more unconventional, but web-based. however distributed programs are here to stay. So are really small teams doing really huge work ( twitter , facebook ). leaving all my other musings aside, my new years resolution ( again ) is: I SHALL DEFINITELY COME UP WITH SOMETHING EVOLUTIONARY THIS YEAR.

Why am i studying electronics ?

This blog is to remind myself why i am studying electronics once again. Bcoz i invariably keep forgetting this particular train of thoughts 1. Electronics forms the basis of computers.hence for any innovation to happen, the OS has to be hacked. Also, in the coming few years, there may be unconventional input devices, so device drivers will need to be written. To do so, electronis should be studied. 2. Electronics is a subject which will need innovation like in computer software.A *LOT* of scope. 3. Electronic items need to made cheaper. Great opening for entepreneurs. One more amazing reason. 4. I need to get into any college whose name starts with "Indian Institute of....". the one in Bangalore will do quite nicely, thank you. 5 II** becoz the college where i did my engineering (a local college) was ...all...balls.... also these colleges go along well with my line of thinking
